Welcome to the New Sounds Jazz Workshop – a free, independent and immersive jazz course for young musicians, hosted at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire from Monday 14th April to Wednesday 16th April 2025. Led by some of the UK’s top jazz musicians and educators, this workshop will guide young people through essential jazz techniques, including harmony and improvisation. It’s an exciting opportunity to learn, create, and collaborate with other talented young musicians in a dynamic, supportive environment.
The course is open to all instrumentalists and vocalists aged 11–18 from Birmingham. Participants will be grouped into small ensembles of up to 8 musicians, where they’ll work closely with expert tutors to enhance their ensemble playing, explore jazz repertoire, and delve into the rich history and influences of this dynamic art form.
Throughout the course, there will be masterclasses, listening sessions, and a final musical sharing, where participants can showcase their progress. This special event, held in the East Side Jazz Club at the Conservatoire, will be open to parents, carers, friends and family.
